New Technology Enhances Performance, Improves Feel and Increases Distance
BEAVERTON, Ore. (January 22, 2007) – Seventy – that’s the number of global wins that the Nike One Platinum Ball and the Nike One Black ball has accumulated in just three short years since the launch of One Black and One Platinum in 2004 and 2005, respectively. In 2006 alone, the successful Nike One Ball Franchise totaled 34 global wins.
In 2007, Nike Golf’s Product Development Director for balls, Rock Ishii and his team of engineers, have infused new and improved technology in both the One Black and One Platinum. Distinguishing from the previous versions of each ball, the new packaging will be highlighted with a yellow label that reads "New," as well as a plus-sign by the name, Nike One +Platinum (SRP $54.00) and Nike One +Black (SRP $54.00).
"We’ve taken two premium golf balls and have made them even better," said Ishii. "We’ve softened the cover in the Nike One +Platinum for increased feel around the green. In the Nike One +Black, we’ve made the cover firmer which helps to reduce spin off the tee for distance performance."
The Nike One +Platinum, inspired by the best players but engineered for every player, has been updated by its softened urethane cover, intensified progressive density core and a decrease in its dimple pattern to 336, representing an all-time low dimple count for the Nike One series balls. All of this combines to achieve the ideal feel, spin and ball flight for every shot, making it a total performance ball. With these technological improvements, tests revealed:
Greater feel and playability around the greens
Long irons are staying in the air longer, allowing a more aggressive approach into the green
With the SQ driver, spin rates are down, distance increased
"The One Platinum is the best performing ball for me," said Rory Sabbatini, Nike Tour staff member and winner of the 2006 Nissan Open. "It’s long off the tee. It has a consistent ball flight. It’s the ball I’ve found to suit my game the best."
The Nike One +Black has a more intensified progressive density core than before, and features a larger core and thinner mantle. The Nike One +Black also has decreased its dimple pattern to 336. With these technological improvements, tests revealed:
Definitely longer off the tee than previous version
Feels much faster coming off the face
New 336 dimple is strong throughout the entire trajectory, flatter than current version
Shallow angle of descent creates more roll
"I play with the One Black because I have a steep angle at the ball, which creates a lot of spin," said Chris Couch, Nike Tour staff member and winner of the 2006 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. "The Nike One Black has a little less spin on it. I get a better launch angle with it off the tee and less spin, which is really good for me."
In summary, the new technology in the Nike One +Platinum translates to improved feel around the greens and a total performance golf ball. The new Nike One +Black technology stresses improved aerodynamics and longer distance.
