MARIETTA, Ga. – Entries are now being accepted for the 36th annual Georgia Four-Ball Championship, which takes place April 27-29 at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta. This event is open to two-man teams of male amateur golfers who are GSGA members and Georgia residents, with a maximum handicap differential of six strokes.

The format of the event is 54 holes of stroke play over three days. The field will be cut to the low 40 teams and ties after 36 holes. Savannah’s Doug Hanzel and Alpharetta’s Bob Royak won the championship last year after a grueling nine-hole playoff with four-time champions Carter Mize and Wright Waddell, both of Columbus. Hanzel and Royak fired rounds of 63-65-69 to finish with a sixteen-under 197. Kinderlou Forest Golf Club hosts the Four-Ball Championship for the first time having previously co-hosted the Georgia Four-Ball Tournament in 2005 and 2006.

Qualified players may enter online at the GSGA website (www.gsga.org) by clicking the Online Registration quick link. Paper entries are available by request and may also be downloaded as a PDF file via the GSGA website. The deadline for entries is Wednesday, April 19 at 5:00 p.m.

Also, entries will be closing on February 28 for the Georgia Four-Ball Tournament, which takes place March 23-25 at River Pointe Golf Club and Stonebridge Golf and Country Club in Albany. This event is open to two-man teams of male amateur golfers who are GSGA members and Georgia residents, with combined USGA Handicap Indexes of 4.0 and above and a maximum differential of six strokes.

The format of the event is 54 holes of flighted, four-ball stroke play over three days. Last year, Rob Wiggins and Ryan Evans, both of Kennesaw, fired a three-under 69 in the final round, carded a tournament-low 65 in the second round and set a new Georgia Four-Ball Tournament record with a tournament-total of 201 (-15). The father-son duo of Calhoun’s Bob and Mike Nance finished seven strokes behind in second place.

Entry periods are also currently open for the Georgia Mid-Amateur Championship (through March 14) and the Georgia Women’s Match Play Championship (through March 21).

Any questions regarding GSGA competitions may be directed to the Rules and Competitions Department at 770-955-4272 or 800-949-4742, or via email at info@gsga.org.
