Five Top-10 Finishers Carried Graphite Design Shafts Throughout Event
(SAN DIEGO, California) – Graphite Design — maker of some of the most widely played graphite driver shaft models on the PGA TOUR — today announces the winner of the PGA TOUR’s Honda Classic played a Graphite Design shaft model while the company’s products were in the bags of five top-10 finishers, according to the Darrell Survey.
The winner utilized Graphite Design’s YS-Hybrid 85 shaft en route to victory at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, earning his first career PGA TOUR win. A 10-foot birdie putt on the third extra hole gave him the victory in a four-way playoff and the $990,000 first-place prize.
In all, five top-10 finishers at the Honda Classic carried Graphite Design shaft models, including the popular YS-6, Purple Ice and Tour GAT shafts. One player armed with a YS-6 shaft in his driver ranked second in driving distance for the week at 311.6 yards. Together, the five top-10 finishers combined to earn more than $1.43 million on the demanding, Jack Nicklaus-designed course.
"Graphite Design congratulates the winner on his breakthrough victory," said Victor Afable, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Graphite Design. "When pros seek optimum distance and accuracy in their drivers, fairway woods and hybrid clubs – especially under difficult conditions — they turn to Graphite Design. For amateur golfers, the benefits are equally impressive."
In 2006, Graphite Design shafts were played by 41 winners of professional tournaments worldwide. Players using Graphite Design shafts amassed more than $90 million in PGA TOUR earnings in 2006 while the company earned more graphite wood-shaft model count victories on the PGA TOUR (16) than any other manufacturer. On the Japan Tour, Graphite Design shafts were in the bags of 18 winners in 2006 while the company extended its win streak in the wood-shaft brand count to 134 consecutive tournaments – an unprecedented string dating to 2002.
Graphite Design is the graphite shaftmaker of choice for Hank Haney, coach to the world’s top-ranked player. The company recently introduced its G-TECH combination-flex custom clubmaker series of wood and iron shafts, designed for exceptional playability throughout the bag.
