Georgia Retains Top Spot; Arizona State Moves to No.2
NEW YORK, NY—The very first Golf World/NGCA Division I Coaches’ Poll has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine and the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). The poll is based on the selections of twenty-seven women’s coaches from across the country. The complete results, including results from Divisions II and III, will appear in the March 9 issue of Golf World and can be viewed online now at www.golfworld.com/womenspoll.
Georgia is number one in the poll, retaining the top spot from Golf World’s last College Coaches’ Poll of 2006. The Lady Bulldogs finished tied for second place in their spring opener (the Lady Puerto Rico Classic) and are led by sophomore All-American candidate Taylor Leon, who has three top-five finishes and four top-ten finishes in four starts, along with a 71.86 stroke average. The team has also benefited from the play of sophomore Alina Lee, who was a co-medalist at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
Rounding out the top five are: Arizona State (No.2), who moves up a spot on the strength of finishing second at the Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge and winning the Arizona Wildcat Invitational; Duke (No.3); Auburn (No.4); Pepperdine (No.5).
