Future U.S. Open Qualifier Site to Test Area’s Best Amateur Golfers
(DELAND, Fla.) – Victoria Hills Golf Club – the award-winning Ron Garl design at the heart of Victoria Park, a St. Joe community in DeLand – today announces it will host a Florida State Golf Association ("FSGA") Winter Series individual event, March 19-20.
Winter Series events, featuring the state’s best amateur golfers, are conducted via 36 holes of "gross only" scoring. Each age division is flighted after the first round. After the first round, the number of flights in each age division is based on the number of competitors and/or the range of scores. Age group champions at each event will receive a commemorative award and gift certificates of approximately $30 per player will be awarded for each of the age groups.
The age groups and tournament yardages established by the FSGA are:
Mid-Senior (40-54, 6,700 yards)
Senior (55-64, 6,400 yards)
Super Senior (65 and over, 6,100 yards)
Designed by Ron Garl, Victoria Hills has hosted a number of high-profile events since opening in 2001, including a U.S. Senior Open qualifier, the Stetson University Invitational and an Atlantic Sun Conference championship, and will host a U.S. Open local qualifier in 2007. It has also emerged as one of the most highly-decorated courses in the state, garnering "best of" recognition from GOLF Magazine, Golf Digest, Travel + Leisure Golf, Golfweek, the Orlando Sentinel and Golf Life Orlando.
