Marlborough, MA-March 26, 2007— CHAMP Spikes had two different spikes provide the same result over the past weekend-titles on both the PGA and LPGA Tours.
On the PGA, the number one player in the world made his run early at the WGC-CA Championship in Doral and kept all challengers at bay as he finished 10 under par for his sixth World Golf Championship. All six of the winner’s World Golf Championships have come on six different courses in four countries but all have come while wearing CHAMP Spikes. This year, the winner sported CHAMP Cermec® while breezing to the title on the "Blue Monster," shooting his first three rounds under par. Overall, 33 of the 73 golfers wore CHAMP Spikes, the most of any manufacturer, and CHAMP claimed twelve of the top 20.
"We try not to look too hard at those numbers," said Harris MacNeill, President of CHAMP. "We are more concerned with trends and patterns. Our spikes have been worn by more Tour winners this year than any other manufacturer. Our tour percentages and overall player numbers on the PGA and LPGA Tours are increasing as are our manufacturer partnerships."
On the LPGA Tour, last year’s female athlete of the year didn’t play it safe at the Safeway International Presented by Coca-Cola, squandering a four stroke lead before birding four of the last five holes to capture the title. The champion was wearing CHAMP’s Stinger® spikes as she battled unsavory weather conditions during the tournament. Play had to be suspended several times during the week due to weather conditions but the CHAMP Stinger’s unparalleled dual traction elements withstood the rigorous conditions without slipping or clogging en route to the win. In total, CHAMP spikes were worn by ten of the top 15, including the top four finishers.
The CHAMP Stinger® features a dual durometer TPU combination for superior durability and comfort. The Stinger has spring-flex traction elements that provide optimum traction. Its patented visible "C" wear indicator that turns solid when spikes need to be replaced. Meanwhile, the CHAMP Cermec® spike is the ultimate in metal spike technology performance and the preferred choice of tour traditionalists with its highly abrasion and impact resistant ceramic ball fused to a hardened tool steel spike.
