The first 2007 Nationwide Tour event on U.S. soil proved to Nickent Golf exactly why they have become one of the most vocal proponents of this so-called "developmental tour."
The winner and the second place finisher at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open both used 3DX DC hybrids, according to the Darrell Survey.
The players battled each other to a third sudden death playoff hole to determine the champion. It was Nickent’s 4th 1-2 finish on the Nationwide Tour in the last year. Both players are known as regular cardholders on the PGA Tour, as was almost 60 percent of the field in Louisiana.
Because the event was paired up against the invitational WGC-CA Championship event at Doral, the Louisiana field resembled that of a PGA Tour event, and showed why the PGA and Nationwide Tour media guides now refer to the Nationwide as "a virtual extension of the PGA Tour." There were 17 past PGA Tour winners in the field at Le Triomphe Golf Club.
The victory was Nickent’s 14th win on the PGA Tours over the last 3 seasons, 11 of which have come on the Nationwide Tour. No hybrid manufacturer has won more on the Nationwide Tour since the start of the 2005 season. All of these wins came from players who choose Nickent clubs without being an endorsed staff player.
This year, Nickent has moved into the world of signing professional staff players to perfectly complement their 3-year exclusive OEM series sponsorship of the Golf Channel’s Nationwide Tour coverage. Nickent has secured some of the brightest young players in the game to let the world know that the "Nickent Youth Movement" is gaining steam.
The team includes: Brad Adamonis, Joseph Alfieri II, Ramon Bescansa, Dustin Bray, Josh Broadaway, Jason Caron, Erik Compton, Scott Gardiner, Kevin Gessino-Kraft, Ryan Howison, Jeff Klauk, Kyle McCarthy, Sal Spallone, Vance Veazey and Mark Walker, as well PGA Tour stars and ex-Nationwide Tour players Jeff Quinney and Ryan Armour, plus LPGA standouts Keyong Baye and Theresa Lu.
On the range at Louisiana, Nickent’s futuristic green and yellow staff bag was visible everywhere, and players were testing much more than just hybrids, including the new 4DX Driver, ARC Wedges and 3DX Pro Irons. All of these products look to get a nice amount of usage with staff players and non-staff players alike, which in turn will allow these products to climb the ladder to the PGA Tour.
"What a week for us!" said Nickent Director of Marketing Jon Claffey. " From seeing our new staff for the first time to hearing players say our new 4DX Driver is their favorite new driver, all the way to a 1-2 finish! We couldn’t have scripted this any better. We start our sponsorship of the Golf Channel’s Nationwide Tour next week at the Livermore Valley event and we are also have the most hybrid victories since the start of the 2005 season. We consider ourselves to be a pretty lucky company."
The winner of the event won for the first time in over 12 years, a record on tour for that time span. "Obviously winning early on this Tour is a great start to the season," said the Louisiana champion. "I’ll play a lot out here this year and hopefully get my PGA Tour card back by being in the top 25 on the money list."
