The Hermitage in Tennessee to Host the EWGA Championship Finals
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, March 29, 2007 – The EWGA Championship, the largest amateur women’s golf competition in the United States, begins in April at local chapters of the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA). From April through July, depending on the area’s golf season, local competitions will be held by the 120 EWGA chapters found throughout the United States and Canada.
At the chapter level, EWGA members compete in individual stoke play in five flights based on USGA handicaps and a scramble team competition. Low gross and low net winners in each flight and the winning scramble team then compete in one of 15 semi-final competitions held throughout the United States. (see locations below). Semi-final winners will compete in the 36-hole championship finals at the Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, Tennessee on September 7 – 8, 2007. Now in its 12th year, this annual competition had 2455 participants in 2006.
"The EWGA Championship is a premier event for women of all playing ability levels. For some of our members who did not grow up playing sports, this is one of their first experiences in competitive play," says Pam Swensen, CEO of the EWGA. "The growth and continued excellence of the EWGA Championship demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing women with more opportunities through the game of golf."
Previously hosting the EWGA Championship Finals in 2004, the Hermitage Golf Course is considered one of Tennessee’s finest public access golf courses. Its two courses have received numerous awards including "Top 10 in Tennessee" from Golf Digest Magazine and Golf for Women’s "50 Best Courses for Women" and are a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.
"We are looking forward to returning to the Hermitage and enjoying their spectacular courses and Southern hospitality," says Swensen. "We anticipate that this year’s competitions will set another participation record, culminating in an exciting two-day finish in Tennessee."
Since the EWGA started in 1991, more than 80,000 women have benefited from membership in the organization which is dedicated to providing opportunities to learn, play, and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life. Chapters provide a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for both new and experienced golfers.
