Winner on Three Tours, Including Monumental LPGA Win
Marlborough, MA-April 2, 2007— CHAMP Spikes had a very successful weekend winning on the LPGA, PGA, and European PGA tours. On the LPGA and European PGA Tours, history was made and CHAMP was part of the excitement. The youngest winner to ever win an LPGA major captured the first of the year at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in California. The champion, just 18 years old, started the day tied for 9th place and shot a bogey free final 24 holes to take the title. The April Fools joke was on the other competitors as they could not close the door. The champ was wearing CHAMP Stingerâ?¢ spikes and finished with a narrow one stroke lead over the next three finishers after her final round 69.
On the PGA Tour, players were fine tuning their games for the Masters at the Shell Houston Open. The champion, also wearing CHAMP Stinger spikes, gunned his way to the title while surviving the elements. Torrential rains caused a six hour delay but with no surprise CHAMP Stinger spikes were able to withstand rigorous conditions with its unparalleled dual traction elements. The champion hit his tee shot on the 18th in the water but recovered with a final round 6-under 66, finishing 17 under at the Masters tune-up.
In Portugal, the European Tour’s winner was no April fool as he too wore the CHAMP Stinger to win the Estoril Open de Portugal, becoming the first amateur to win on the European Tour. Although he did not get any of the money last year’s number one player in college golf got all the glory after he parred the monstrous par 4, 474 yard, 18th hole to make history. The champion shot a final round 3-under 68, finishing 7- under and one stroke ahead for the title.
"This was a great week for us. Being part of history on any tour is fantastic. The fact that we could be part of it on two different tours is even better." said Harris MacNeill. "The important thing that we take away from this is that these golfers are choosing our spikes at a young age and making our spikes part of their selected equipment. We are very happy that they are choosing CHAMP Spikes for their traction needs."
All three players were wearing the CHAMP Stinger® which features a dual durometer TPU combination for superior durability and comfort. The Stinger has spring-flex traction elements that provide optimum traction and its patented visible "C" wear indicator that turns solid when spikes need to be replaced.
