DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., April 3, 2007 – The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and the Evian Masters Organization have announced an increase in the field size for the 2007 Evian Masters. The field will increase by 12 players to 90; additional players will be selected based on the Rolex Rankings as of July 16, 2007. The 90-player field will also result in the tournament’s first-ever cut to the top-70 and ties.
The $3 million Evian Masters is one of 10 Winner events in the LPGA Playoffs 2007. The Evian Masters champion will automatically earn a spot in the season-ending ADT Championship, the culmination of the LPGA Playoffs 2007, where the winner earns a $1 million payday.
Recently, the LPGA and Evian Masters Organization also announced that the 2007 Evian Masters will conclude on Sunday, July 29, instead of the traditional Saturday finish for the mid-summer event. Tournament week will include a Wednesday pro-am followed by the 72-hole competition, which will begin Thursday, July 26.
The field for the 90-player 2007 Evian Masters (July 26-29) will be created based on:
1. Top-10 and ties from the 2006 Evian Masters.
2. Tournament winners of all official 2006 LPGA Tour events and 2007 official tournaments through July 15, 2007 (Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic Presented by Kroger).
3. Tournament winners of all official 2006 Ladies European Tour (LET) events and 2007 official LET tournaments through July 22, 2007.
4. U.S. Women’s Open, Weetabix Women’s British Open and Evian Masters champions from 2005-07.
5. LPGA Tour Hall of Fame members who have played in at least 10 official LPGA Tour events since July 26, 2006.
6. All Evian Masters champions from 1994-2004.
7. Five golfers selected by Evian as sponsor exemptions.
8. For players not otherwise qualified or selected as set forth in categories 1-7 above, the remaining spots through 90 shall be allocated according to the current Rolex Rankings as published July 16, 2007.
