Parent Child Golf School Offers Fun While Learning The Game
WINTERGREEN, VA — Vacation packages always are a great way to enjoy Wintergreen Resort’s two distinct golf courses – the mountaintop Devils Knob and the valley floor’s Stoney Creek – while exploring the resort’s superb amenities and wide variety of recreational activities.
One of the Mid-Atlantic’s premier year-round family golf destinations, Wintergreen Resort is located in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, where soothing luxury and rejuvenation from a full day on the golf course is readily available at the Wintergarden Spa.
Each summer one of the Wintergreen Golf Academy’s most popular golf packages is the Parent Child School (two nights), which allows moms and dads to share the learning experience with their sons and daughters. All combinations of one or more parents with one or more children are welcome. The package includes two days of instruction (eight hours) covering golf skills, strategy and fitness, Model Golf video full-swing analysis, complete short-game instruction (pitch shots, chip shots, bunker play and putting), 36 holes of golf on either of the Wintergreen Resort courses and access to resort facilities.
All of Wintergreen Resort’s summer packages offer unlimited golf on weekdays and access to the Aquatics & Fitness Center (sauna, steam room, whirlpool, indoor and outdoor swimming pools).
Guests that visit on the "Champions Challenge" often book a "Neck, Back and Shoulder" massage at the Wintergarden Spa. With unlimited golf offered on weekdays, the body can use some professional rejuvenation.
Since "The Legends" package is popular with couples (combining play and instruction), guests generally add a dinner at The Copper Mine restaurant, an ideal place to compare notes.
Because it can be difficult to decide which Wintergreen activity to choose off the course, the "Wintergreen Your Way" package offers either a 50-minute massage, or 50-minute facial. Court time outside at the tennis center is also available, while the Wintergreen Nature Foundation is an easy walk from the spa (and worth a visit).
Women know how to relax and be refreshed at Virginia’s favorite golf resort, where Wintergreen’s "Where The Boys Aren’t" package provides a bottle of wine from a premier Virginia vintner. Toss in two rounds of golf, some tennis and swimming, and it’s not surprising most guests opt for some extra attention at the spa.
The Wintergreen Golf Academy has numerous packages for those who want to improve their game, up to a full week’s stay. By combining the teaching techniques of award-winning instructors with high-tech video swing analysis, and then blending them with fun summer activities, the Wintergreen Resort Golf Academy has introduced programs that target the development of each student, on and off the golf course, and by including access to resort amenities.
Stoney Creek Golf Course is the resort’s 27-hole valley layout designed by renowned golf course architect Rees Jones. Flowing through the historic Rockfish Valley, it incorporates natural springs and native habitat, including Lake Monocan and Stoney Creek, with all three nines presenting elevation changes and large, deceptively contoured greens. Tournament play is to be on the Monocan and Shamokin nines for a par 72 that will play to 7,005 yards.
Devils Knob Golf Course, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2006, is a co-design by the father-son team of Ellis and Dan Maples. The highest course in Virginia, Devils Knob is an exquisite mountaintop layout at 3,850 feet elevation known for cool summer temperatures and outstanding tee-to-green conditions. New this year are Devils Knob’s double black diamond tees which extend this layout to 6,748 yards, making this course an challenge for very good players.
The Resort’s 11,000 acres are now a lush green, offering a vast variety of activities for all ages — from tennis and golf camps to family campfires and story telling, from indoor/outdoor swimming to craft workshops, from hiking and biking to horseback riding through the spectacular Rockfish Valley. As proved by families who return year after year, Wintergreen is a safe, relaxing resort that builds memories for years to come.
