800 Panelists Rated Hundreds of Courses in Order to Identify Excellence
(KAUA’I, Hawaii) – The Kaua’i Visitors Bureau today announces that several of the courses in its golf-destination co-operative – Kaua’i: Discover Golf’s Ultimate Island Green – have been voted onto Golf Digest Magazine’s biennial ranking of the "America’s Greatest Courses State by State 2007-08."
The Prince Course at Princeville Golf Club – home to 45 golf holes designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. – is rated the No. 1 course in Hawaii by Golf Digest, the same position it garnered two years ago. The Kiele Course at Kaua’i Lagoons Golf Club – home to 36 holes designed by Jack Nicklaus – was rated No. 9 by Golf Digest’s rating panelists. Poipu Bay Golf Course, which hosted the PGA Grand Slam of Golf from 1994-2006 ranks No. 10 in Hawaii by Golf Digest.
Fifteen courses earned best-in-state acclaim from Golf Digest. There are roughly 90 courses in Hawaii, which is widely regarded as home to many of the nation’s finest golf courses.
Golf Digest’s biennial best-in-state rankings are determined by the magazine’s course rating panelists, a group of more than 800 low-handicap golfers who rated thousands of U.S. courses on a 10-point scale in various criteria.
These updated state-by-state rankings appear in the April 2007 issue of Golf Digest which is currently on newsstands.
"Having three of the four golf clubs which comprise the 117 holes in our destination cooperative rated as best Hawaii golf courses by a pre-eminent publication such as Golf Digest is a wonderful honor," says Sue Kanoho, Executive Director of the Kaua’i Visitors Bureau. "Puakea, our fourth golf partner, is also a wonderful course which consistently delights players."
