North America Squirrel Association Provides SoloRider to Trempealeau Mountain Golf Course To Make Game More Accessible for Disabled, Seniors

CENTENNIAL, COLO. (April 10, 2007) – The North American Squirrel Association, a Wisconsin-based non-profit that has been helping physically challenged and senior citizens enjoy hunting and fishing since its formation four years ago, is expanding its efforts to make golf more accessible with the help of a specially designed golf car from SoloRider.

nasa (the organization prefers the lower case acronym to differentiate itself from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration) presented its first SoloRider to the Trempealeau Mountain Golf Course in La Crosse last week. The association has plans to provide additional SoloRider vehicles to other courses in the area to help disabled players and seniors enjoy the game.

"We think there are a lot of people out there who probably feel they can’t play the game because of mobility issues, so they just don’t try to play anymore," said Pat Lamke, vice president of nasa. "But this golf cart allows players to play the game the way it was meant to be played."

SoloRider golf cars are equipped with hand controls and an electronic seat that can be adjusted so golfers with limited mobility can play their shots without leaving the vehicle. An automotive-type suspension system and precise weight distribution enable the golf car to be driven onto tees and greens without damaging the turf.

Bill Pearse, general manager and head professional at Trempealeau Mountain, said the 18-hole daily fee course will waive the standard cart fee to encourage disabled golfers and seniors to get back in the game with the help of the SoloRider. "There’s no reason that more people with a disability are not able to play golf," Pearse says. "It’s one of those things where you scratch your head and ask yourself, ‘Why did we wait all this time to give these people the opportunity to enjoy this game?’"

Established in 1991, Centennial, Colo.-based SoloRider Management LLC (www.solorider.com) manufactures and distributes the industry’s leading single-rider golf car. SoloRider is the only single-rider golf car that meets or exceeds the safety, performance, stability, speed and suspension standards of conventional golf cars. In 2002, SoloRider received the prestigious da Vinci Award from the Engineering Society of Detroit in recognition of innovations that empowered all people, regardless of physical ability. Monroe Berkman, an avid golfer, polio survivor and longtime user of the SoloRider golf car, purchased the company in 2004.
