On-Course Monuments Dedicated To Historic Moments
CARLSBAD, Calif., April 10, 2007 … Dedicated to a rich golf tradition that dates back more than 40 years, La Costa Resort and Spa has unveiled its Legends Trail. The on-course monuments have been specially designed to recapture the magic of the game’s most celebrated players, placed appropriately on holes at La Costa where so many chapters in golf history have been written.
The first set of eight granite monuments appear on selected spots throughout the North Course and South Course at the famed 36-hole golf destination, where guests have the opportunity to "walk in the footsteps of legends."
Most recently home of the annual Accenture Match Play Championship (from 1999-2006), La Costa, part of the family of KSL Resorts destinations, also hosted the world’s premier tour golf professionals during the prestigious Tournament Of Champions (1969-1993) and Mercedes Championship (1994-1998).
"We are proud to be the caretakers of an important place in the legacy of golf," said April Shute, Vice President and General Manager of La Costa. "It’s both our duty and pleasure to remind golfers who play at La Costa today about the personal connection they have to the tradition and history made by many of the best players in the world."
The Legends Trail is part of the resort’s dedication to maintaining its rich golf tradition that began with golf’s tour stars of the 1960s. Among the others is La Costa’s popular annual program of making its legendary Tournament Course available for play, this year accepting tee times for the unique composite of the North Course and South Course on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
"We realize golfers enjoy walking in the footsteps of the many famous champions who created a truly special legacy on the tournament course," Shute said.
The spirit of the Legends Trail will be perpetuated with the introduction of a "Legends Gallery" of historic photos and memorabilia, as well as to complement the presentation of future golf events at La Costa and additional on-course monuments.
