CONCORD, N.C. – Rocky River Golf Club at Concord has jumped up one position to No. 76 in the annual ranking of North Carolina’s 100 best golf courses.
This marks the fourth straight year that the upscale public course has advanced one spot in the survey, which covers all of the estimated 550 or so golf courses in North Carolina.
"If you look at the quality of courses in this state, we’re in good company at No. 76," said Floyd Gragg, head golf professional. "It’s great that we continue to move up, and I don’t see any reason we can’t climb into the top-50 range. I believe we have that caliber of golf course."
The rankings, compiled annually by the N.C. Golf Panel, appear in the April 2007 issue of Business North Carolina magazine. Rocky River received 342 points in balloting of 135 golf professionals, select amateurs, industry executives and golf media who comprise the panel.
Rocky River’s strong ranking is more good news for the club this year. In January, it became part of North Carolina’s newest golf resort with the opening of the $65 million Embassy Suites hotel, spa & convention center adjacent to the course.
Gragg said the addition of the luxury hotel will boost Rocky River’s stature in the golfing world.
"The management has set very high standards for the hotel and the golf course. I believe our association with the hotel is going to elevate playing conditions for golfers," Gragg said. "There is definitely momentum here."
