Long-awaited championship course on track for summer debut
CARLSBAD, Calif., April 12, 2007 – KemperSports today announced Gary Glaser as director of golf for The Crossings at Carlsbad, the city’s highly anticipated public golf destination, scheduled to debut this summer. In this role, Glaser will oversee golf operations at the 18-hole championship course, located in northern San Diego County approximately 30 minutes from downtown San Diego.
Glaser’s career spans more than 26 years in the golf industry with a focus on resort and upscale, daily-fee management operations. He most recently served as executive director of golf and retail at the 63-hole Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa, an award-winning golf destination in Galena, Ill. Prior to that, Glaser spent six years as executive director of golf and retail at the esteemed La Costa Resort and Spa, seven-year home of the PGA TOUR’s World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship, where he was decorated with "Merchandiser of the Year" honors numerous times.
Glaser, a member of The PGA of America since 1984, also served as president of the San Diego PGA in 1988 and 1989. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation and Park Administration from Western Illinois University.
"I’m honored to be a part of the KemperSports team that is working alongside the city of Carlsbad to make this long-awaited golf course a reality," said Glaser.
Added KemperSports General Manager Jeff Perry, "Gary will play a vital role as we continue down the homestretch to opening day. We’re thrilled to have him on board."
Developed and owned by the city of Carlsbad, The Crossings at Carlsbad will feature an 18-hole, Greg Nash-designed championship golf course. The 400-acre golf property, which winds through a coastal terrain highlighted by views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding shoreline, has been infused with massive pines, oaks and sycamore trees along with the installation of Bermuda grass. Upon completion, a 23,000-square-foot clubhouse will house a golf shop, banquet facilities, a spacious dining room equipped with a full-service kitchen and an outdoor deck with ocean views. A fully lighted practice facility and public trails that link to the city’s extensive Trail System will complement the golf course.
