Nationwide and LPGA Tour Victors, Five Top-10 Verizon Heritage Finishers Carried Graphite Design Shafts
(SAN DIEGO, California) – Graphite Design — maker of some of the most widely played graphite driver shaft models on the PGA TOUR — today announces its YS-6 shaft led the graphite wood shaft model count at the PGA TOUR’s Verizon Heritage while players using its shafts claimed victories on the Nationwide and LPGA Tours, according to the Darrell Survey.
At the Verizon Heritage, a total of 12 YS-6 shafts were in play as PGA TOUR professionals battled narrow fairways and high winds at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, S.C. Five top-10 finishers at the event carried Graphite Design shafts, including the YS-6, Pershing and Purple Ice models. Meanwhile, the winner of the Nationwide Tour’s South Georgia Classic relied on Graphite Design’s YS-8.1 in his 3-wood, and the LPGA Tour’s Ginn Open champion carried Pershing models in her driver and a fairway wood.
In addition, Graphite Design led the graphite wood shaft brand count at the Japan Tour’s season-opening Token Homemate Cup, marking the 135th consecutive event in which Graphite Design has topped the chart dating to 2002. The company’s Tour AD Quattro Tech shaft – recently introduced in the United States – was the most-played graphite wood shaft model with 21 in play.
"It is always gratifying to see world-class golfers excel while playing Graphite Design shafts," said Victor Afable, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Graphite Design. "Professionals around the globe recognize the advantages Graphite Design’s high-performance shafts deliver, especially in today’s larger clubheads – and those qualities translate to the weekend player’s game as well."
In 2006, Graphite Design shafts were played by 41 winners of professional tournaments worldwide. Players using Graphite Design shafts amassed more than $90 million in PGA TOUR earnings in 2006 while the company earned more graphite wood-shaft model count victories on the PGA TOUR (16) than any other manufacturer. On the Japan Tour, Graphite Design shafts were in the bags of 18 winners in 2006 while the company extended its win streak in the wood-shaft brand count to 134 consecutive tournaments – an unprecedented string dating to 2002.
Graphite Design is the graphite shaftmaker of choice for Hank Haney, coach to the world’s top-ranked player. The company recently introduced its G-TECH combination-flex custom clubmaker series of wood and iron shafts, designed for exceptional playability throughout the bag.
