If you were to ask the players on the PGA, Nationwide and LPGA Tours what the hottest new hybrid on the range is right now, their answer would almost certainly be the two new 4DX hybrids from Nickent Golf. If you were to ask them why, they most likely would speak of an amazing new sound and feel married with great looks, a longer, more penetrating ball flight and a perfect trajectory.
Ask Nickent Senior Vice President and designer of Nickent clubs John Hoeflich why the 4DX IW is being so well received on tour and he’ll tell you that a Super Thin .4mm Titanium crown has been brazed to a stainless steel body for optimum weight distribution. Take it one step further and ask CEO Michael Lee what the key to success is with the 4DX hybrids and he will tell you that multi-material hybrids are the wave of the future and that Nickent is leading the way in hybrid innovation with these exciting new clubs. From the deeper face to the increased COR value, it seems everyone has the answer to why the 4DX Ironwood and Utility are the best hybrids to hit the market this year and why the Nickent marketing team is calling 4DX "the hybrids to end all hybrids." And if the 4DX story needed validation, it came with a 2nd place finish on the PGA Tour in the hands of the longest driver on the PGA Tour. To date, almost every single player that has tried the 4DX has put it in his or her bag immediately.
Nickent spent over one year to develop the next generation of state-of-the-art hybrids. Three different multi-material combinations were tried to find the best possible performance. In the end, Nickent developed the first hybrid to utilize a patented brazing technology that fuses a titanium crown with a steel body; all while making the crown the thinnest it has ever been on a golf club head. Other hybrid manufacturers who have attempted to attach titanium to steel multi-material hybrids have resorted to using glue, which was found by Nickent engineers to have an unfavorable sound and feel. "We see multi-material as being the future of golf clubs," said Lee. "Just as in drivers, hybrids must also go through this evolution, and we are on the forefront of making that a reality. There are only two ways to combine multi-materials: brazing and glue. In the end, brazing gives you more weight to redistribute and gives you a better sound and feel than the multi-material clubs that have glue holding them together."Replacing the steel with titanium saved approximately 50% of the weight in the crown. The .4mm crown is also half as thick as on the 3DX DC hybrids, so when you combine both attributes, the new crown configuration weighs almost 4 times less than the crown of the 3DX DC hybrids. This is on top of the 40 grams Nickent was able to reposition on the 3DX DC’s versus the original 3DX Ironwood, so it is around 50 grams of weight that have been repositioned since the launch of Nickent’s first award-winning hybrid. The face height of the 4DX is 2mm taller than the 3DX models, giving the 4DX less spin and a more penetrating ball flight. This design change creates a perfect trajectory that fights the wind and lands softly from long distances, while catering to every swing speed.
XW Inserts, which have become the driving technology behind nearly every Nickent product in the 2007 line, are made of Tungsten Polymer to reduce vibration and to be used for swing weight adjustment. It’s like having moveable weights without the hassle and without relying on bulky screws that add a harsh feel at impact.
The 4DX hybrids are not a replacement for the popular 3DX DC line, they are meant to perfectly complement them. The two sets of hybrids offer two separate trajectories and setups for the player. The 4DX is more penetrating, while the 3DX DC has more height and a little more spin. This makes the 4DX the perfect option for players who trap the ball and for highball hitters, while the DC may still be the preferred hybrid for players who need a little more launch and spin. Please keep in mind that between the Ironwood and Utility on both models, there is also a difference between trajectory characteristics, so you are dealing with 4 separate ball flights. That’s 25 available lofts, each with its own trajectory! No wonder Nickent is still considered the undisputed King of Hybrids!
