MEADOW VISTA, Calif. – John Welch was recently named General Manager of Winchester Country Club, a private, equity-based golf and country club located 35 miles east of Sacramento. Welch is responsible for business operations at the club including food and beverage, golf, budgeting, inventory control, maintenance and staffing.
"John is a great addition to the team," said Linda Clifford, President of the Board of Trustees for Winchester Country Club. "His well rounded skill set not only covers the basics such as golf and food and beverage operations, he also has an intangible amiability that will be a big hit with the membership."
Welch joins Winchester Country Club with 16 years of private club experience under his belt including management positions at Lakewood Country Club in Lakewood, Colorado (the 2nd oldest private club in Colorado) and Glenmoor Country Club in Cherry Hills, Colorado. More than just a golf guy, Welch was the owner/operator of a local Denver-area restaurant as well as an executive level manager in the Internet and Data Center industries.
Welch earned a Master’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Colorado, and continues to develop professionally as a Certified Club Manager and past president of the Club Managers Association, Mile High Chapter.
Winchester Country Club unfolds over a densely forested pocket of the Sierra Nevada foothills. The 385 estate homesites range in size from one to six acres, thereby making for a low density, spacious community that preserves Winchester Country Club’s tree lined high-country experience. Homesites from the last phase of the community have recently been released. Also available are 24 highly amenitized custom cottages ranging from 2,500 s.f. to 4,500 s.f. adjacent to the clubhouse which provide another exciting life style choice for those who are often on the move. At the community’s centerpiece is an 18-hole championship golf course co-designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Jr. So seamlessly integrated are the golf course and dwellings with the forested property that it prompted Jones, Jr. to say, "At first glance, it was obvious that the golf course would take on a natural look and feel. The trick was to marry the fairways and greens to the surrounding terrain, and, much to our delight, we accomplished this goal with flying colors."
Winchester Country Club has garnered an impressive list of awards and accolades since opening in 1999. For example, the clubhouse place first in Golf Inc. magazine’s 2006 clubhouse competition in the over 22,000 square-foot category. It made Golf Magazine Living’s (sister publication to Golf Magazine) list of the "50 Best Golf Communities in America." Winchester Country Club has repeatedly been selected by Links magazine’s as one of "America’s 100 Premier Properties," and repeatedly selected as one of "America’s Best Residential Golf Courses" by the editors of Golfweek magazine.
