CARLSBAD, Calif. (April 30, 2007) – TaylorMade Tour Staff professional Scott Verplank tapped in a two-foot par putt yesterday to secure a one-shot victory in the EDS Byron Nelson Championship – a victory that he proclaimed the most memorable in his career so far. The Dallas native, who was a friend of the late Byron Nelson, fired a final round 4-under-66 in front of a home crowd to secure the victory, the fifth of his tour career.

"There’s no question in my mind that the stars lined up and I got a little help from upstairs," Verplank said. "I think Byron had a hand in this week."

Verplank started the final round a shot behind the leader, then reeled off five birdies in an eight-hole stretch, from number five to number 11. Pars the rest of the way in, including a long explosion to tap-in range on 17 for a tremendous par-save, got him to the clubhouse in 66 for a 13-under total of 267.

Known for his accuracy and deft putting touch, Verplank tied for eighth in driving accuracy at 67.9% and tied for fifth in greens in regulation at 73.6%. He credited his recent switch from graphite shafts to steel in his TaylorMade® racâ?¢ Forged TP irons for increasing his GIR percentage, saying, "I hit the ball at the holeâ?¦all week."

Besides TaylorMade rac Forged TP irons, Verplank also played an r7 425 driver with Movable Weight Technologyâ?¢, and a TaylorMade 3-wood and 5-wood.*

TaylorMade drivers, fairway woods and hybrids ranked No. 1 at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship.
