PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. May 1, 2007 ï?¾ While the U.S. Women’s Open Championship is played at Pine Needles, the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) Foundation will host its 5th annual fundraising dinner and charity golf tournament in support of the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf program. Open to all interested participants, the ‘ EWGA at the U.S. Open’ activities being held at the National Golf Club in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C. include a Thursday, June 28 dinner and silent auction and Friday June 29 morning golf tournament and awards lunch.
Three playing spots with LPGA legend Patty Sheehan in the Friday tournament top the array of silent auction offerings. Sheehan, a two time U.S. Women’s Open winner, Solheim Cup captain and LPGA Hall of Fame member is a EWGA member and serves on the EWGA Foundation board of directors. Participants can also bid in advance for a chance to walk the U.S. Women’s Open with Sheehan on Thursday afternoon. Other auction items include golf foursomes at some of the country’s leading courses, golf merchandise and apparel and numerous gift certificates.
National Golf Club is a Jack Nicklaus masterpiece set amidst the longleaf pines of Southern Pines featuring wide fairways, lush course conditions, and undulating putting surfaces to challenge one’s golfing ability. This exclusive, private club is ranked #14 in the Top 100 North Carolina courses.
EWGA packages which are available to the public include the Thursday dinner, Friday tournament, gift bag and tickets to the U.S. Women’s Open for $295 to $395. Commuter packages for Friday golf only are available for $185 and include continental breakfast, golf, prizes and awards lunch. Proceeds raised from this EWGA Foundation event will support LPGA-USGA Girls Golf, a developmental junior golf program for girls age 7-17 to play golf, build friendships and sample competition in a supportive and positive learning environment.
The EWGA Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization formed and supported by the Executive Women’s Golf Association. Its mission is to develop premier golf education and leadership development programs for women of all ages. Over the past five years, EWGA Chapters and the EWGA Foundation have donated over $300,000 to LPGA-USGA Girls Golf.
