Competition already heating up with 13-year-old competitor
ROANOKE, TEXAS (May 8, 2007) – Long Drivers of America (LDA) announced today that Laughlin Ranch Golf Club will once again serve as the host site for the final showdown of the 2007 Exceptional Driver Championship (EDC). From May 5-11, 2008, 150 local qualifiers will vie for driving supremacy at the EDC finals along the Colorado River.
Already eligible for the 2007 finals are California resident George Schmidt, who posted a perfect score of 84 in an early EDC qualifier, and Texas teenager Chevy Stauffacher, who at age 13 is the youngest local qualifying winner in EDC history. They will join others in the race for the championship, as well as a chance at the $100,000 winner-take-all payday.
"The Laughlin Tourism Committee is proud to be the 2007 presenting sponsor," said Michele Beggs, Don Laughlin’s Riverside Resort Hotel & Casino Marketing Manager and Event Chairperson. "With a full array of resort hotels, Nevada style fun and an unending list of amenities, Laughlin is the perfect choice for an event of this caliber."
Launched in 2005, EDC is a grassroots competition that determines which amateur golfers are the most exceptional drivers of the golf ball. The competition is open to any amateur golfer — male or female, adult or junior. Competitors attain points by driving golf balls long and straight into the championship grid, and the competitor who amasses the highest point total wins.
In 2005, Jason Swihart of Jackson, Michigan was crowned American’s most exceptional driver, while Scott Ionno of Northfield, New Jersey took home the title in 2006.
