Newest Bechtol Russell Golf Course Opens to Enormous Crowd
(ConCan, Texas) ConCan Country Club (www.concangolf.com) opened its doors on Saturday, May 5th, 2007 to hundreds of golfers and their families and friends in what may be the greatest, most genuine display of hospitality ever seen in Texas golf.
One golfer was overheard telling owners Kenneth and Barbara Arthur, "This is the greatest golf tournament I’ve ever played in!" Kenneth and Barbara replied almost in unison, "This is the first one we’ve ever done." Those within earshot were doubled over in laughter.
The Arthurs, who own and operate the Frio Country Cabins, Frio Country Store and the House Pasture Cattle Company restaurant, now have an outstanding golf course, thanks to the design talents of Roy Bechtol and Randy Russell.
Casey Arthur, Kenneth and Barbara’s daughter, probably summed it up best. "We really didn’t know anything about golf, but we sure know how to throw a party." She was right. Throughout the golf course, five or six stations were set up and staffed with people grilling and serving bacon-wrapped scallops, shrimp, roasted pork and quail with ginger-habanero honey sauce, plum tomato halves stuffed with lump crab salad, cheese biscuits with smoked ham and all sorts of chips and dips and other samples from the House Pasture Cattle Company’s menu.
Some say ConCan Country Club is Bechtol Russell’s finest layout to date.
