Marlborough, MA-May 14th, 2007-CHAMP Spikes took top honors this weekend as winners at both The Players Championship on the PGA Tour and the Michelob Ultra Open on the LPGA Tour wore the number one brand on tour. In total, nearly 150 tour players wore CHAMP Spikes over the last weekend.
In Florida, The Players Championship was held at the newly renovated Sawgrass Stadium Course. Finishing the weekend with a final round score of 69 to cement his two stroke lead, the winner walked away on CHAMP Cermec® spikes with a final score of 277 and his second win of the year, the 31st of his career. His 11-under par total gave him his first win at The Players Championship. In addition to the winner, CHAMP also outfitted seven of the top 10 finishers, as well as 48 other players from the field.
It was a nerve wracking finale for the LPGA winner as it took 3 sudden death playoff holes to name the champion of this year’s Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill Resort. Sporting CHAMP Stingerâ?¢ spikes, this first time LPGA winner began the day four strokes behind the leader. A bogey-free final round of 68 capped off her 10-under par final score of 274 to force a playoff. The winner kept the momentum going in extra holes where she took the win. The CHAMP Stinger, made with green friendly, dual density plastic to provide maximum traction and comfort, was the choice for the champion and many others who braved the challenging terrain at Kingsmill. An astonishing 86% of the players who wore CHAMP spikes at the Michelob ULTRA Open chose them over the spikes originally provided in their shoes.
"To have eleven wins this early in the season, is really unprecedented," said Harris MacNeill, President of CHAMP. "With two consecutive wins on the PGA tour and having so many of the players in contention on Sunday wear our spikes makes every week thrilling. This proves once again that the characteristics our spikes possess are truly what the players are looking for: comfort, durability and reliability. It’s easy to see why CHAMP is the number one brand on Tour."
