OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The University of Louisville recently opened a new indoor golf practice facility featuring synthetic turf manufactured and installed by Players Turf Systems.
"We have a brand new 1,800-square-foot indoor facility that’s perfect," said Mark Crabtree, Louisville’s Men’s Head Golf Coach. "Players Turf constructed an exceptional practice putting green. It has all the undulations we wanted. There are enough cups situated in just the right places. Everything came out exactly as we planned."
In addition to the putting green, Players Turf Systems also installed a hitting surface in three hitting bays.
"The new surface in the bays will enable us to use our video equipment when working with our athletes on a year round basis" added Crabtree.
The coach also feels that the addition of the facility will not only reap immediate benefits for his program, but will also pay enormous dividends in the future as well.
"It will certainly help the players we have right now," he said. "Moreover, it will be a very useful recruiting tool for the university. We try to recruit a lot of golfers in the south and our biggest obstacles have been December, January and February. Now, we can show off our beautiful facility where they can to constantly work on their games all year round. This high quality facility with outstanding synthetic turf is a definite plus for both the men’s and women’s golf programs."
The University of Louisville facility is one of 12 collegiate facilities to install Players Turf Systems in their golf facilities. Some of the more widely known colleges are Notre Dame, Purdue, the University of Illinois and Iowa State.
"Golf is no longer a just a seasonal sport," offered Ray Sever, Players Turf Systems Director of Sales. "There’s continual pressure at the collegiate level to maintain the level of play of the top college golf programs. If you’re in the northern part of the U.S., it takes a good indoor facility and Players Turf Systems provides a top flight playing surface to practice on. Our extensive experience in installing the Players Turf indoors allows us to tailor the installation specifically to their needs."
Sever was quick to point out that upper echelon golf programs in the south have also taken advantage of the benefits provided by Players Turf Systems.
"We’ve installed our Tee Line system at the University of Florida because they don’t have to go inside during the winter," he said with chuckle. "Our Tee Line system preserves the practice area for them to use year round, while at the same time giving the golfers the same feel and ball action attained when hitting off of grass."
Players Turf Systems work with collegiate golf programs is an extension of their commitment to help continue to grow the game of golf by providing the fairest and best playing conditions in the game.
