Creating positive energy bubble stops negativity in its tracks
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The old adage, "sticks and stones may break your bones, but words will never hurt you" might be true generally but couldn’t be farther from the truth on the golf course. In his groundbreaking DVD Par and Beyond Secrets to Better Golf Dr. Jerry Teplitz warns players how dangerous negative thoughts and even negative words by you or from your playing partners are for your golf game.
"The words of others definitely have an impact on us," said Teplitz. "Negative words we say or think affect us as do the words our playing partners say to us. Just hearing those words can lower our resistance to negativity. And as you have probably experienced, it’s hard to have a great round of golf when you are focused on the negative. The good news is there is a method to protect ourselves from this negative energy."
Teplitz, who is a pioneer in the field of stress and energy management, compares his solution to the original Star Trek television series.
"Remember when Captain Kirk used to say ‘raise the shield, Scotty?’" he asked. "In essence, that’s what you should do. As silly as it sounds, you should visualize an energy field or bubble around yourself which serves as a positive force field protecting you from negative words or thoughts. Then when playing a round of golf, if the rest of your group chooses to be negative, you can simply use this energy bubble to circumvent their misery. This means you’ll be escaping a negative impact on your game. During any potentially negative situation, thing of the most positive thing you can think of whether it’s related to golf or not and focus on it. Don’t let the negative words of others penetrate your positive energy bubble."
Building a positive energy bubble is an extension of a process called "Behavioral Kinesiology" which uses a concept called muscle checking. Teplitz combines this with a series of Brain Optimization exercises that rewires the brain to create a positive energy field rather than a negative one. The process of how to create this positive energy bubble plus the visualization exercises are thoroughly discussed in the DVD. In the DVD, Teplitz talks about the results of two test studies that were performed and bear out the effect of positive thought and visualization.
"Three groups of basketball players were tested and scored for their basketball skills (foul shooting, dribbling, shooting, etc.)," he explained. "Two weeks later they were retested. The group that did nothing during the two weeks remained at the same level. Predictably, the group that practiced
every day for two weeks saw their scores improve, but the group that only visualized playing over those two weeks went up almost as much as the group that practiced.
"Another test involved three groups of children who rolled a ball at a target," continued Teplitz. "The first group hit the target 13 times and was then told to practice for 10 minutes a day for the next two weeks. The second group also hit the target 13 times and was told to just visualize hitting the target for 10 minutes a day for two weeks. The third group hit the target 12 times and was instructed to physically practice for five minutes a day and visualize hitting the target for five minutes a day for those two weeks. The group that practiced for 10 minutes a day improved by 70 percent. The group that just visualized improved 68 percent and the third group that combined practice and visualization improved 160 percent."
Teplitz proves that by freeing the mind of negative images and thoughts is the first step towards lower scores.
"Eliminating negative thoughts and words is just one secret you can glean from Par and Beyond Secrets To Better Golf," he said. "I believe golfers of all skill levels can find something beneficial on this DVD to improve their game."
Dr. Teplitz will be presenting at the 17th Annual International Network of Golf’s Spring Conference June 3-7 at Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, N.Y. site of the 2007 B.C. Open.
