GRAND BLANC, Mich. — Tiger Woods, the world’s number one golfer, intends to play in the 2007 Buick Open at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc, Mich., June 25-July 1.
"Tiger’s continued support of the Buick Open makes a tremendous difference for everyone involved with the tournament and for Southeast Michigan charities," said Larry Peck, Buick golf marketing manager. "He is a tremendous partner to Buick who loves to compete at Warwick Hills."
Woods, 31, can become only the third player in tournament history to win the Buick Open in consecutive years (Tony Lema in 1964-65 and Vijay Singh in 2004-2005 are the others) and only the second player to win the tournament three times (Singh won in 1997). This will be Woods’ sixth consecutive appearance at the Buick Open and ninth overall. He has finished in the top 10 in seven of his previous eight appearances.
Woods is number one on the official World Golf Ranking and is the PGA Tour’s all-time leader in prize money. He is fifth on the PGA Tour’s career victory list (57), trailing only Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan and Arnold Palmer.
Woods and the rest of the 2007 Buick Open field will compete for a record $4.9 million purse, including an $882,000 first prize and the keys to a 2008 Buick Enclave.
