World long-driving record holder, Paul Slater, is using a Huxley Rotanet golf practice net to groove and fine-tune his swing as he bids to extend his driving distance and secure further titles over the coming months.
Installed during May at Paul’s Cheshire home, the Huxley Rotanet’s unique feature is that it can be set up and dismantled in just two minutes, enabling it to be taken by Paul to long- driving events held throughout the United Kingdom, Ireland and continental Europe.
"Using the portable support frame, I can set up the Rotanet quickly just about anywhere that I am able to swing a golf club, even indoors," commented Paul. "This enables me to warm up and get my driving action on song before the event. I am taking part in 13 competitions across Europe this year, so the Rotanet is going to be heavily used."
Although the Huxley Rotanet’s portability was one of the principal factors that attracted Paul, its strength and durability were of major importance too.
"My first experience of the Rotanet was at the 2007 London Golf Show where 10 sets were set up within the teaching area," pointed out Paul. "I used it for demonstrations and lessons continuously over four days and the net happily withstood ball speeds in excess of 200 mph without suffering any deterioration or movement. If I had used a normal net, it would have been in tatters in less than an hour. I was so impressed that I had to have my own Rotanet for practising at home and ahead of long-driving competitions."
A PGA-qualified professional, Paul Slater entered his first long-driving event in 2003, winning with a distance of 387 yards secured on grass using a standard metal driver. His world record distance of 884 yards was achieved in April 2006 at an international long- driving competition held at Wroughton Airfield in Wiltshire.
Paul’s ambition is to be the world champion both on grass and composite surfaces. "The key is to be consistently long and straight off the tee," he said. "With the help of the Huxley Rotanet, I am well on the way to achieving my goals."
Huxley Golf director, Barry Huxley, commented: "Throughout the four days of The London Golf Show, the Huxley Rotanet withstood Paul’s fiercest drives without any problem no matter how hard he hit the ball. Amateur and professional golfers can buy the Huxley Rotanet on-line at www.huxleyrotanet.com at prices from £399."
