2100 Golfers Turn Out For Free Clubs, Free Golf, Free Lessons & Free Range Balls
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A record 2100+ golfers turned out en masse at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex on May 18, 2007 to receive free golf lessons from nearly 40 PGA & LPGA Professionals who volunteered in support of Play Golf America, an initiative designed to bring new players to the game and former players back to the sport. Each attendee also received a free golf club, presented by Wilson Golf, had the opportunity for a free custom club fitting, had free green fees throughout the day, were entertained by several clinics throughout the day from trick-shot artist Peter Johncke, long driver Jason Zuback and Sacramento Kings point guard Mike Bibby, and were able to trade in their old clubs with credit towards purchasing new equipment at the Haggin Oaks Golf Super Shop.
The Play Golf America Day was supported by The PGA of America, NCPGA, NCGA, LPGA, CGCSA, USGA, EWGA and the California Alliance for Golf. The event had the presence & support of several top equipment manufacturers including: Cobra, Callaway, Nike, MacGregor, PING, TaylorMade-Adidas Golf, Sport-Haley, Yes! Golf and Top-Flite/Ben Hogan, each displaying some of the hottest products in the marketplace.
Wilson Golf, three-time supporter of this event, again supplied nearly 1,300 free golf clubs that were handed out to new & beginning golfers to encourage them to play the game. "We cannot thank Wilson enough for their amazing gift to the game," says Haggin Oaks Director of Golf Ken Morton, Sr. "Their support in this way allows new golfers to test the waters of this great game with little investment and generates an amazing amount of new golfers in the process."
There was several exhibitions going on during the day. Jason Zuback, a past World Long Drive Champion from the Cobra Team conducted two at 10:30 am and 3:00 pm. Hilarious and amazing Peter Johncke gave a trick shot exhibition at noon and again at 4pm. Nike Golf brought Sacramento Kings point guard Mike Bibby to the event and at 1:15 pm, Haggin Oaks Director of Instruction & Fitting Tom Morton, gave him a golf lesson in front of hundreds before doing a Q&A. While not having played regularly, Mike’s hits and mishits were very fun for the group watching- showing that the game can be played from the basic beginner to a world-class athlete. Mike’s clinic finished with him going in for a clubfitting inside the new Haggin Oaks Players Performance Clubfitting Studio.
Another unique feature of this day is that green fees on the Haggin Oaks Arcade Creek Golf Course are complimentary the entire day. Golfers of all abilities are able to register at the event and then play first-come first-served on either the front nine or back nine- making this another great opportunity to "test the waters" of golf for new golfers.
Managed by Morton Golf, the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex is located at 3645 Fulton Avenue in Sacramento (at the Capital City Freeway). For more information, call (916) 481-GOLF.
