Sixth Nationwide Tour Winner of 2007 Also Played Graphite Design, As Did Victor of Japan Tour Event
(SAN DIEGO, California) – Graphite Design — maker of some of the most widely played graphite driver shaft models on the PGA TOUR — today announces that a pair of runners-up at the PGA TOUR’s Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial used its Purple Ice model while this week’s Nationwide Tour and Japan Tour winners also played Graphite Design shafts, according to the Darrell Survey.
At the Crowne Plaza Invitational, both second-place finishers carried Purple Ice models while negotiating the demanding Colonial Country Club course at 14-under-par for the week. In fact, one player’s driver, 4-wood and 5-wood all featured Purple Ice shafts while the other professional utilized the popular model in his 3-wood. Preferred by aggressive swingers, Purple Ice shafts are noted for their lively feel, penetrating ball flight and striking appearance.
On the Nationwide Tour, Graphite Design’s impressive run of success continued as the winner of the Melwood Prince George’s County Open used the company’s YS-Hybrid 85 model in a pair of clubs. It marked the fourth consecutive Nationwide Tour event won by a player using Graphite Design shafts and the sixth overall this season. Graphite Design models were in the bags of five top-five finishers at the Melwood Prince George’s County Open.
Graphite Design dominated the graphite wood shaft brand count at the Japan Tour’s Mitsubishi Diamond Cup, marking the 140th consecutive event the company has claimed that category. This week, Graphite Design nearly doubled the closest competitor with 186 shafts in play, a margin of 92 shafts. The tournament winner carried Graphite Design models in a pair of fairway woods en route to victory.
"Professionals on tours around the globe continue to excel using Graphite Design shafts, a powerful testament to our products’ superior performance," said Victor Afable, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Graphite Design. "While professional success validates the quality of our shafts, Graphite Design models enhance the accuracy, distance and control of everyday golfers as well."
In 2006, Graphite Design shafts were played by 41 winners of professional tournaments worldwide. Players using Graphite Design shafts amassed more than $90 million in PGA TOUR earnings in 2006 while the company earned more graphite wood-shaft model count victories on the PGA TOUR (16) than any other manufacturer. On the Japan Tour, Graphite Design shafts were in the bags of 18 winners in 2006 while the company extended its win streak in the wood-shaft brand count to 134 consecutive tournaments – an unprecedented string dating to 2002.
Graphite Design is the graphite shaftmaker of choice for Hank Haney, coach to the world’s top-ranked player. The company recently introduced the Tour AD Quattro Tech ultra-premium shaft in the U.S. and launched its G-TECH combination-flex custom clubmaker series of wood and iron shafts, designed for exceptional playability throughout the bag.
