Sterne, Castrale, Roberts and Riegger Lead Titleist to Four-Win Week
Fairhaven, MA (June 4, 2007) – Four more victories by Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf ball loyalists across the worldwide professional tours this week brings the Titleist year-to-date victory total to 80, nearly eight times the nearest competitor with 11. Titleist continues to be the overwhelming leader in players, wins and money. Since its Tour introduction in October of 2000, versions of the Pro V1 have been the combined choice of 976 champions, just 24 shy in the march to the 1,000 wins milestone. Below are Titleist golf ball highlights from across the worldwide professional tours this week:
PGA EUROPEAN: Richard Sterne (Pro V1x) carded a final round 65 for a 13-under par total of 263 to capture the Celtic Manor Wales Open by one shot over four players, including Mardan Mamat (Pro V1x), who fired a best of tournament 62 earlier in the day, Soren Kjeldsen (New Pro V1) and Mads Vibe-Hastrup (New Pro V1x). It marked the second career PGA European Tour title for Sterne, who recorded five birdies over the final nine holes to close with a final nine 29. Titleist was the golf ball of choice at the event with 104 (67%) players, nearly five times the nearest competitor with 21. The win was the 17th by Titleist golf ball players on the 2007 PGA European Tour, more than four times the nearest competitor with 4.
LPGA: Nicole Castrale (New Pro V1) secured her first LPGA Tour victory in dramatic fashion at the Ginn Tribute, defeating the world number one on the first hole of sudden-death playoff. Cristie Kerr (New Pro V1) closed with a 73 to finish third at 6-under. Titleist was the golf ball of choice at the event with 105 (73%) players, more than four times the nearest competitor with 24. The win was the 8th by a Titleist golf ball player on the 2007 LPGA Tour, nearly three times the nearest competitor with 3.
NATIONWIDE: John Riegger birdied the final hole to complete a 4-under 68 and win the LaSalle Bank Open by a single stroke over fellow Pro V1x player, B.J. Staten. Riegger recorded three birdies on the back nine, including an 18-footer at the last, to finish with a 17-under 271 total for his first career Nationwide Tour victory. Titleist was the most played golf ball at the event with 115 players, more than eight times the nearest competitor with 14. The win was the 7th by a Titleist golf ball player on the 2007 Nationwide Tour, more than three times the nearest competitor with 2.
CHAMPIONS: Loren Roberts (Pro V1) fired a final round 6-under 65 to win the Boeing Championship at Sandestin by three shots. Roberts finished the week with a 16-under 197 total for his first Champions Tour victory of the season and the sixth of his career. Titleist was the golf ball of choice at the Boeing Championship with 54 (69%) players, more than three times the nearest competitor with 16. The win was the 10th by a Titleist golf ball player on the 2007 Champions Tour, five times the nearest competitor with 2.
PGA TOUR: Titleist was the golf ball of choice at the Memorial with 74 (69%) players relying upon the Pro V1 or Pro V1x, more than six times the nearest competitor with 12.
