PEBBLE BEACH – Poppy Hills is ranked 12th on the 2007/2008 Zagat Survey’s "Most Popular Course" list, one place higher than TPC Sawgrass, site of the annual Players Championship.
Each surveyor for the popular guide was asked to list their five favorite courses. Poppy Hills’ placement follows the Kapalua Plantation and Bethpage Red courses. The honor joins a growing list of accolades for the NCGA member course, highlighted by the 2006 "Golf Course of the Year" award from the National Golf Course Owner’s Association.
Pebble Beach was ranked first followed by Bethpage Black on Long Island. Spyglass Hill was listed third. Other Northern California courses included Spanish Bay (#8), Pasatiempo (#15), Harding Park (#27) and Half Moon Bay-Ocean (#29).
"To be on a list of such great courses is very important to us," says Poppy Hills General Manager Tyler Jones. "It’s what we strive for.With an impending renovation of the kitchen and emphasis on improved course conditions, it is our intention to continue to enhance our product and create better value for our customers."
The Zagat Guide began in 1979 by evaluating restaurants in New York City. It has since expanded to involve more than 250,000 surveyors surveying dining, entertaining, hotels, movies, music, nightlife, resorts, shopping, theater and tourist attractions worldwide. Opinions from more than 6,250 golfers form the basis for the golf course ratings.
Free Lessons Among other member services and along with other facilities, Poppy Hills is offering free lessons as part of a list of ever-growing membership benefits of the Northern California Golf Association. Through Poppy Hills and Poppy Ridge, as well as CourseCo.’s 12 golf courses throughout Northern California and San Jose Municipal GC, the group lessons are led by the facilities’ golf professionals. Each course offers a complete schedule of free lessons and clinics:
Poppy Hills NCGA members can enjoy free clinics on Wednesdays beginning at 5:30 and Saturdays at 3:00. The clinics cover a variety of skills and last one hour.
