(CARMEL, CA, June 6, 2007.) The Shivas Irons Society announced today that the public is invited to participate with its members in a unique day of golf, wine and film lore in the spectacular Santa Ynez Valley area of southern California – the same setting featured in the major motion picture Sideways.
On Saturday, July 14th, 2007, the Society will hold its first "Celebration of Wine and Golf" at the renowned Alisal Guest Ranch and Resort. Following a day of golf on the private Alisal Ranch Course, participants will enjoy a gourmet tapas meal, wine tasting and tour of the nearby Balaban Private Estate and Winery. The day’s special guest will be Alexander Payne, writer and director of the Academy Award-winning film Sideways. Mr. Payne will share his stories about the shooting of the golf scenes in Sideways, which were filmed in what many have come to regard as the "new Napa" of California.
Golfing as well as non-golfing participants are welcome. For complete information on the event, please visit the Society’s website at www.shivas.org.
The Shivas Irons Society is a 501(c)3 charitable organization with members throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. In pursuing its mission of honoring the traditions and mysteries of the game of golf, the Society hosts various fund-raising events and publishes the award-winning periodical of golf art and literature, The Journal of the Shivas Irons Society. Proceeds from the above noted event will support the continued publication of the Journal.
