Srixon’s Thompson Goes Wire to Wire for First Nationwide Win; Davis and Webb Finish Runner-Up on PGA and LPGA Tour
ATLANTA, June 11, 2007 – Srixon’s popular Z-URS golf ball had an outstanding week on tour. The multi-layer high performance golf ball recorded one win on the Nationwide Tour and runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour.
It was only a matter of time for Nationwide Tour professional, Kyle Thompson to enter the winner’s circle. With four runner-up finishes and nine top-5 finishes during his career on the Nationwide Tour, he can now add a win to his impressive resume. Thompson led the Rex Hospital Open all four rounds and finished with a 1-under par 70 to claim first prize of $81,000, moving him to No. 15 on the money list.
Thompson, showing pinpoint accuracy during the week with the combination of the Srixon’s Z-URS golf ball and I-506 irons, lead the field in birdies. During the final round he hit 12 out of 14 fairways and 10 out of 18 greens in regulations which included one birdie and six pars on the final seven holes to pull out the two-shot victory.
On the PGA TOUR, Srixon staff professional Brian Davis finished solo second in his first career start at Stanford St. Jude Championship. Davis uses Srixon’s Z-URS golf ball and the soon to be released new Srixon irons. His consistent iron play all week was capped off with a final round 66, earning him a second place check of $648,000. Davis also made a huge jump up the FedExCup point list from No. 163 to No. 63.
Srixon also earned another runner-up finish on the LPGA Tour with staff professional Karrie Webb finishing second again this year at the McDonald’s LPGA Championship. She made a strong charge on the final three holes with a clutch par out of the bunker on 16 and then closed with two straight birdies for a final round 67. Webb drove the ball well all week with the Srixon 506 driver and enjoyed consistent iron play with Srixon irons and the Z-URS golf ball. Webb has won over $400,000 in nine starts and is currently 11th on the money list.
The Z-URS golf ball features a new technologically advanced urethane cover, thinner mid-layer and larger Energetic Gradient Growth core to provide more ball velocity and greenside spin and control. The ball is played on all the major professional golf tours.
