Sullivan and Nearly 30% of the Field Played the TaylorMade TP Golf Ball
CARLSBAD, Calif. (June 25, 2007) – TaylorMade-adidas Golf staff player Chip Sullivan cruised to a four-stroke victory at the 40th PGA Professional Championship in Sunriver, Oregon. Entering the final round trailing by a stroke, the PGA Head Professional at Ashley Plantation in Daleville, Virginia, shot a 32 on the front nine to claim a three-shot lead en route to finishing with a six-under-par 281 and hoisting the Walter Hagen Cup for the first time.
Sullivan teed up a TP Blackâ?¢ ball to claim his victory, riding five front-nine birdies for a final-round 70. Also in the winning bag was an r7® SuperQuadâ?¢ driver with Movable Weight Technologyâ?¢, TaylorMade r7 TP 3-wood, TaylorMade Rescue® Dual (19° and 22°), TaylorMade r7 TP irons (4-9), TaylorMade racâ?¢ 48° and rac TP 54° and 60° wedges.* Sullivan wore adidas POWERBAND shoes and adidas Golf ClimaCool® apparel.
Including Sullivan, 89 total players in the field (28.5 %) used TaylorMade’s TP Golf Ball, with 58 choosing TP Redâ?¢ and 31 playing TP Black. Introduced last year, each features a tour-leading thermoset urethane cover and super-fast NdV4 core to promote ultra-fast ball speed and tour-level spin control. TP Red promotes a lower launch angle for control and softer feel; TP Black promotes a higher launch angle for increased carry and a firmer feel. (Further information on the TP Red and TP Black.)
With the win, Sullivan qualified for the 2007 PGA Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma, from August 6-12, received six PGA Tour exemptions over a 12-month period and clinched a spot on the PGA Cup team, a 10-man squad of U.S. golf professionals that competes against a similar team from Great Britain and Ireland in a biennial Ryder Cup-like competition, to be held this September at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Georgia.
A total of five TaylorMade Staff players qualified for the 2007 PGA Championship by finishing in the top 20: Sullivan, Greg Bisconti (St. Andrew’s GC; Hasting-on-Hudson, NY) was 13th with a 289 and Brad Lardon (Miramont CC; Brian, TX), Matt Call (Plum Creek G&CC; Castle Rock, CO) and Bill Amundsen (Skyline GC; Black River Falls, WI) all advanced in a playoff after shooting a 290 in the 72-hole tournament.
