The 48-year-old Lehman was born in Austin, Minn., and attended the University of Minnnesota. His best 2007 finish to date is a T5 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard. He currently ranks eighth on the PGA TOUR this year in Greens in Regulation Pct.
(68.80%) and is ninth among Par 3 Birdie or Better Leaders (16.51%).
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Lehman-who now lives in Scottsdale, Ariz., with his wife, Melissa, and four children-has played in three Ryder Cups (1995, 1997 and 1999) in addition to captaining last year’s team, and has also played on three Presidents Cup teams (1994, 1996 and 2000).
Lehman’s spectacular PGA TOUR career includes five victories, including both the British Open and TOUR Championship in 1996. His stellar major-tournament record features three top-10 finishes in the Masters, including a second-place performance in 1994 and a T3 in 1993; five top-10s in the U.S. Open, including a T2 in 1996, and third-place finishes in 1995 and ’97; a T4 in the 2000 British Open in addition to his 1996 victory; one top-10 in the PGA Championship (T10 in 1997); and five top-10s in the Players Championship, including a T2 in both 1998 and 2005.
Lehman is a prime example of perseverance. After three forgettable seasons on the PGA TOUR from 1983 through 1985, Lehman took his game to Asia, South Africa and elsewhere for the rest of the decade. He returned to the United States to post four wins on the Nationwide Tour in 1990 and 1991, including three victories in 1991, when he was the tour’s top money winner and Player of the Year. In 1992, his first year back on the PGA TOUR, he finished 24th on the money list, including a T2 at the Hardee’s Golf Classic. From that point on his career skyrocketed.
Off the course, Lehman has also been a star. In 2001 he was the winner of the Charles Bartlett Award, given by the Golf Writers Association of America for unselfish contributions to golf. Lehman has raised millions of dollars through his charity tournament in Minneapolis and is involved with "Match Point," a Phoenix program that matches adults with troubled children.
