TaylorMade. The Fastest Growing Golf Ball Brand on Tour Nine Worldwide Wins for TaylorMade TP Balls in 2007
CARLSBAD, Calif. (June 27, 2007) -Introduced just over a year ago, TaylorMade’s Tour Preferred (TP) golf ball line, comprised of the TaylorMade TP Blackâ?¢ and TaylorMade TP Redâ?¢ have made TaylorMade the fastest growing golf brand on professional tours worldwide. The TP Red and TP Black are trusted by more than 150 professionals, including tour pros on the PGA Tour, European Tour, Champions Tour, Japan PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour, LPGA Tour; and PGA professionals. In addition, the TP Red and TP Black have been used to win nine tournaments during the past six months.
"With each passing day, more and more Tour Players and Club Professionals are replacing their ball with the TaylorMade TP golf balls," said Mike Ferris, vice president of TaylorMade-adidas Golf’s Golf Ball Division. "Players are experiencing the increased benefits that the TP Red and TP Black provide for ball speed, consistency in flight and predictable spin. We know those same qualities will also help amateurs achieve greater distance and accuracy that result in lower scores."
Among the world’s elite Tour professionals who have made the switch to the TaylorMade TP Red and TP Black are Fred Funk, Sergio Garcia, Retief Goosen, Natalie Gulbis, Hale Irwin, Sean O’Hair and Justin Rose.
"I switched because I get seven more yards off my driver with the TaylorMade TP Red and TP Black," said Goosen, who used TP Red to win the Qatar Masters. "I use TP Black when I need more spin on firm greens and TP Red when the greens are soft."
"I changed to TaylorMade TP Red because it’s as long as any ball I’ve had success with, and it feels nice and soft around the greens," said Funk, who won the PGA Tour Mayakoba Classic and the Champions Tour Turtle Bay Championship with the TP Red ball.
The TP Red and TP Black established TaylorMade as a strong golf ball presence at the PGA Professional National Championship held June 21-24, where 89 players (28.5% of the field) teed up the TP Red or TP Black. The winner, TaylorMade-adidas Golf staff professional Chip Sullivan, played the TP Black. Usage of the TP Red and TP Black at the Professional National Championship increased nearly 40% in 2007 compared to 2006, when 64 participants played a TaylorMade TP ball.
Also last week, at the PGA Tour Travelers Championship, two of the top-five finishers played TP Red, as TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff pro Jay Williamson finished second in a playoff finish and Funk placed fifth. The TP Red ball was also used by the winner of the 96th California Amateur Championship at Monterey Peninsula Country Club.
Both the TP Red and TP Black feature a multi-layer ionomer mantle positioned between a cast thermoset urethane cover and super-fast
NdV4 core to promote ultra-fast ball speed and tour-level spin control. Plus, the PDP dimple design helps extend the back-half of the ball’s flight for increased carry. TP Red promotes a slightly lower launch angle for control and softer feel; TP Black promotes a higher launch angle for increased carry and a slightly firmer feel.
