Pellucid Corp. reports that Golf Playable Hours (GPH) for the month of June at the national level held steady at +0.3% compared to last year. This is the 2nd consecutive month of parallel performance to 2006 after some large swings prior to May. The neutral performance in comparison to 2006, coupled with the fact that June is a heavy rounds month for the industry, improved the year-to-date (YTD) performance cutting the deficit from just above 5% behind for May YTD to just under 4% for the June YTD period.
Performance across Pellucid’s 24 weather-based regions reflected the widespread nature of the steady weather performance vs. ’06 with 12 of 24 regions in neutral territory (+/-2% variance to year-ago) for the month. The industry continued to see slight improvement in the YTD regional breadth as 14 of 24 regions remain in negative territory, down from 16 decliners in the May report.
Pellucid President Jim Koppenhaver comments on the current results saying, "In an agrarian industry with so much riding on the weather, stability is a good thing. The June results provide a level playing field for the industry to drive increases in rounds and revenue. Encouragingly, the May rounds results appear to have beaten the flat weather trends we reported earlier which would be a positive sign as we enter the key summer months for performance. The only potential downside being reported from the field is that water shortage and dry conditions, which won’t be reflected in our weather tracking, may be adversely affecting playing conditions and dampening rounds performance. On the other end of the extreme, Texas called and said they have enough rain already, thanks."
