WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Golden Horseshoe Golf Club’s par-31 Spotswood Course has been recognized among the "Top Short Courses In America" by Golf Range Magazine in its May/June issue. Part of The Resort Collection of Colonial Williamsburg, the Spotswood Course is one of 12 honorees in the "Executive Golf Courses" category. The course lies adjacent to two member hotels of the Resort Collection, the famed Williamsburg Inn and the Williamsburg Lodge.
The official trade publication of the Golf Range Association of America, Golf Range Magazine is the industry’s leading and widest- read trade magazine, published six times per year.
Named for Colonial Governor Alexander Spotswood, the nine-hole Spotswood Course originally was built in the mid 1940s and reconfigured by legendary golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. during his construction of the club’s Gold Course in 1964. Jones incorporated many of the greens and tees of the Williamsburg Inn’s original nine-hole course – built in 1947 – into the Spotswood Course.
The short course remains even more relevant to today’s traveling golfer, whose schedules do not always allow time for a full round of 18. The course is a splendid gathering place for families to play, while remaining both a challenge to experienced golfers and a delight for junior golfers and beginners alike. Measuring 1,865 yards at its longest, the Spotswood Course includes a 480-yard par 5, par 4s of 285 and 305 yards, and six par-3 holes that vary from 90 to 215 yards.

The Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, host of the 2007 NCAA Men’s Division I Golf Championship, also features two championship-tested courses. The Gold Course, which Golf Digest ranked one of six "Best of the Best" by Jones Sr., is the centerpiece of the 45-hole setting. Opened in 1963, the Gold Course was refurbished in 1998 by Jones’ son, Rees Jones, who also built the adjacent Green Course that opened for public play in 1991.
The courses have received numerous honors, which include being listed on "America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses" (Gold Course, Golf Digest), "Top 100 You Can Play" (Gold Course, Golf Magazine); and "America’s Top 100 Public Access Courses" (Gold Course, Golfweek).
