Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley and Julius Erving Head List of Celebrities
ORLANDO (July 11, 2007) – It’s going to be FAR OUT! It’s going to be GROOVY (and not just because of the grooves on the golf clubs)!! And even in the heat of the late-summer Central Florida climate, it’s going to be REALLY COOL!!!
That’s because this year’s Second Annual "Shaq’s Mama Said Knock You Out" Celebrity Charity Golf Tournament and event on Sept. 13 and 14 at the Four Diamond Rosen Shingle Creek hotel and Shingle Creek Golf Club will be one BIG "Shaq-adellic" affair. After all, anything associated with 7-foot-1 Shaquille O’Neal is REALLY BIG.
The 70’s will be the central theme of the 2007 Gala, both in the theme of the big party Friday night after the day’s golfing and, it’s hoped, in the scores the many celebrity golfers and other participants will be shooting over the highly-acclaimed Shingle Creek course. The event is hosted by Lucille O’Neal and her son Shaquille.
Shaquille O’Neal, the NBA great and All-Star center for the Miami Heat, will be the star of the show, but he’ll have plenty of celebrity power to make this a must-attend event. The two-day event will benefit the Odessa Chambliss "Quality of Life Fund" to provide nursing scholarships for colleges throughout the country, including University of Central Florida and Valencia Community College. The fund is named in honor of Lucille O’Neal’s mother and Shaquille O’Neal’s grandmother, Odessa Chambliss (www.ocqualityoflifefund.com), who worked for over 16 years in the nursing profession and who passed away in 1996. The fund honors the lifetime accomplishments of Odessa Chambliss and has a mission of making monetary contributions to institutions that aid students who lack the financial resources for nursing and educational scholarships, as well as cancer research.
The Shaq-adellic festivities begin Thursday night with the pairings party, followed by the golf tournament Friday morning at Shingle Creek Golf Club.
But the highlight will certainly be the fun-filled 70’s themed party, where there will be a whole lot of Saturday Night Fever on a Friday night at Rosen Shingle Creek, which opened last September and has already become one of the elite places to stay in Central Florida.
Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley, former Orlando Magic Star Dennis Scott and others. Attendees, who are encouraged to wear 70’s-style clothing, will also enjoy dinner and a deejay spinning 70’s themed music all evening. Tickets are $500 per person and proceeds will go to the Quality of Life Fund.
Here’s the bell-bottom line: Go (go) find and put on your go-go boots or your platform shoes, pay homage to your lava lamp, feel leisurely once again in your leisure suit and go to the maxi in your mini skirt. It’s going to be quite an evening.
And it’s all for a really good cause.
"The combination of the gayety of the 70’s-themed party and the seriousness of raising money for the Odessa Chambliss Quality of Life Fund promises to make this the best Shaq’s Mama Said Knock You Out event ever," says Lucille O’Neal, Shaq’s mama and the tournament organizer. "As the name of the tournament implies, it’s going to be one knock out of a time."
"We are once again looking forward to hosting this fantastic extravaganza in the name of charity," says Dave Scott, Director of Golf at Shingle Creek Golf Club. "Shaquille O’Neal is an icon in Central and Southern Florida. Being associated with anything he does is an extreme honor for our entire facility."
The "Shaq’s Mama Said Knock You Out" Celebrity Charity Golf Tournament will be hosted by Shaq’s Mama (Lucille O’Neal) and sponsored by the following: Rosen Hotels & Resorts, Universal Studios Florida, NGI, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Bethune-Cookman University, Mercedes Benz, Mine-O-Mine, Inc., Tri-City Electric, Skanska and Turner Construction.
