#1 Brand on Tour Goes 1-2 at the Open Championship
Marlborough, MA-July 24th, 2007- CHAMP Spikes continues its pursuit of golf’s "Grand Slam" with a victory at the 2007 Open Championship. CHAMP Spikes has now claimed victories at The Masters, The US Open, and The Open Championship, while The PGA Championship remains the only obstacle in completing the elusive "Grand Slam of Golf."
Color the third jewel of golf’s grand slam green. Green is for the color of the CHAMP manufactured Hi-Tec CDT golf spike that Padraig Harrington wore on his way to capturing the Claret Jug for his first ever major title. The CDT spike provided Harrington with much needed stability as he overcame a six stroke deficit on Sunday, forcing a playoff for a remarkable victory at Carnoustie.
The second place finisher, who led the majority of the tournament, utilized the high quality traction from CHAMP’s ProStinger â?¢, the only hybrid golf spike on the market. Overall, a whopping 59 players counted on CHAMP spikes, while six out of the top ten finishers wore either the CHAMP Scorpion Stingerâ?¢ or ProStinger.
Harrington counted on the directional traction benefits of the Custom Directional Traction (CDT) spike, developed by CHAMP and Hi-Tec footwear, to provide breakthrough directional traction with its elongated legs. Harrington’s shoes utilize Custom Directional Traction (CDT), a first in golfing footwear. The fully adjustable directional cleat system, made possible by Q-LOK receptacles, is the industry’s quickest and easiest receptacle system on the market. The CDT design allows a player to configure the traction elements to suit their style of play or the local conditions. It results increase players’ stability, enabling them to hit the ball harder, faster and further.
At the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee, CHAMP dotted the leaderboard once again as six out of the top twelve finishers relied on CHAMP to provide them with the traction and comfort they needed to see them through to the end of the tournament.
"Working with the manufacturers on breakthrough technology is what we love to do. The receptacle and spike system are the result of that collaboration." said Harris MacNeill, President of CHAMP. "Congratulations to our partners at Hi-Tec who have worked so hard on this revolutionary project. Winning one of golf’s majors is a tremendous accomplishment and we are so happy to be a part of it. Helping golfers get the most out of their game is what we all, as equipment manufacturers, try to do."
