Final Round 64 Includes Hole-in-One
ATLANTA, July 30, 2007 – Srixon Staff Professional Jim Furyk successfully defended his title on Sunday at the Canadian Open presented by Franklin Templeton Investments. He fired a final round 7-under par 64, which included six birdies and a hole-in-one, to give him a one shot victory. His 64 tied him for the low round of the day with fellow Srixon Staff Professional Alex Cejka. This is Furyk’s 13th PGA Tour victory and his first since last year’s Canadian Open win.
Furyk started out strong on Sunday firing his Srixon I-506 irons right at the flag to begin birdie-par-birdie-hole-in-one. On the par-3 No.4, he attacked the back-right pin position with his I-506 5 iron and landed his Srixon Z-URC golf ball in the fringe just over a large bunker rolling it about 30 feet straight into the hole. In fact, Furyk played the 4th hole in a total of seven strokes for the week, three birdies and the ace. Furyk also used Srixon Forged Wedges, giving him control and finesse around the greens all week.
"Anytime you’re able to go out and post a low number like a 64 in the final round of a tournament, you have to have all aspects of your game working," said Furyk. "When my swing feels as good as it did today, with the control and precision of my Z-URC, I-506 irons and forged wedges, I can attack just about any pin. The ace on No. 4 was a perfect example. 209 yards to a pin tucked a few paces off the back right edge of the green required a high cut to get it close. I knew that my Srixon irons and ball would respond exactly as I wanted them to if I made the right swing. Two bounces and some roll later, I had the lead for good."
With his win on Sunday, Furyk moves to No. 2 in the World Golf Rankings, up three spots to No. 3 in the FedExCup points and jumps three spots to No. 4 on the 2008 PGA Tour money list. The win also gives him an invitation to play in the exclusive season opening 2008 Mercedes-Benz Championship in Hawaii. He is in the midst of another outstanding year on the PGA Tour with eight top-10 finishes, seven of those being top-5s including this victory.
Also at the Canadian Open, Srixon’s Alex Cejka had 10 birdies on Sunday with his Srixon I-302 irons and Z-URC golf ball en route to a 64 and a top-10 finish.
