This Week’s PGA and LPGA Champs Relied on Tour-Tested High- Performance Models
(SAN DIEGO, California) – Graphite Design — maker of some of the most widely played graphite driver shaft models on the PGA TOUR — today announces that the winner of the PGA TOUR’s Canadian Open played its Purple Ice shaft model while the champion of the LPGA Tour’s Evian Masters used its YS-6 shaft, according to the Darrell Survey.
Sporting a Purple Ice 75 in his 3-wood, the Canadian Open winner successfully defended his title thanks to a final-round 64, good for a one-shot victory. In fact, last year’s Canadian Open marked the first event the player used Purple Ice after switching from another brand. The player has relied on the shaft in all 18 of his 2007 starts and currently stands third in the FedEx Cup standings, third in the official world ranking and fourth on the PGATOUR money list.
On the LPGA Tour, the Evian Masters winner broke through for her first career victory using Graphite Design’s YS-6 shafts in her driver and 3-wood. She claimed the title in a one-hole playoff after posting a four-round total of 4-under par at demanding Evian-les- Bains Golf Club in France.
"We congratulate this weekend’s winners on their outstanding performances and are proud to have played a role," said Akio Karashima, CEO of Graphite Design. "The Purple Ice and YS-6 models have proved their mettle time and time again on professional tours worldwide. These shafts’ superb feel and playability make them an excellent match for amateurs as well."
In 2006, Graphite Design shafts were played by 41 winners of professional tournaments worldwide. Players using Graphite Design shafts amassed more than $90 million in PGA TOUR earnings in 2006 while the company earned more graphite wood-shaft model count victories on the PGA TOUR (16) than any other manufacturer. On the Japan Tour, Graphite Design shafts were in the bags of 18 winners in 2006 while the company extended its win streak in the wood-shaft brand count to 134 consecutive tournaments – an unprecedented string dating to 2002.
Graphite Design is the graphite shaftmaker of choice for Hank Haney, coach to the world’s top-ranked player. The company recently introduced the Tour AD Quattro Tech ultra-premium shaft in the U.S. and launched its G-TECH combination-flex custom clubmaker series of wood and iron shafts, designed for exceptional playability throughout the bag.
