FORT WORTH, Texas — PGA veteran Jim Furyk successfully defended his title in the Canadian Open on the PGA Tour this weekend, playing a high-performance Proforce V2 graphite shaft in his driver. Designed and manufactured by UST® (United Sports Technologies), the Proforce V2 graphite shaft provided unparalleled shot consistency and accuracy at the Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham, Ontario, and helped deliver a 7-under 64 score on Sunday for Furyk’s 13th PGA TOUR victory.
The victory was the second consecutive win for UST shafts on the PGA TOUR and the sixth professional win in the past five weeks. With the victory, Furyk also became the first player to successfully defend a Canadian Open title since Jim Ferrier won in 1950 and 1951.
"Jim Furyk has played UST Proforce shafts for many years, and we congratulate him on a terrific victory," says Gene Simpson, vice president of sales and marketing of UST brands. "Professional players, like Furyk, rely upon shafts engineered to extremely high tolerances, and we’re very pleased by the number of players around the world who trust the consistency and performance of UST graphite shafts."
The shot-enhancing benefits and low-torque characteristics of the Proforce V2 have received industry acclaim for optimizing performance of today’s 400cc to 460cc driver heads. The modern trend toward larger driver and fairway wood heads has increased hit-ability for many golfers, but the center of gravity (CG) of most larger clubheads is positioned further away from the center line of the shaft, a design trait which places more stress and causes more twisting on the shaft. The V2’s low torque design provides the power and control needed for today’s 400cc to 460cc heads. Also, because the low-torque V2 prevents clubheads from twisting open on impact, the V2 reduces the amount of back spin imparted onto the ball and enhances shot dispersion.
"With nearly 40 Proforce wood shafts in play at the Canadian Open this weekend, the Proforce series as well as other UST graphite shaft lines continue to win week after week on the pro tours," adds Simpson. "We’re very honored to work with some of the world’s top pros such as Jim Furyk, Davis Love III, Rod Pampling and many others."
