(CARMEL, CA, August 7, 2007) The Shivas Irons Society today announced that it has released the fourth issue of its award-winning periodical, The Journal of the Shivas Irons Society. The Journal, which is intended to be a vehicle for all of the creative arts inspired by the game of golf, occupies a distinctive niche in the golf media marketplace.
In announcing the publication of Issue 4, Steve Cohen, President of the Society, stated, "This latest issue of the Journal, like each of its predecessors, contains everything we strive for – great art and photography, insightful and witty commentary, moving poetry, clever humor and outstanding design. The opening remarks by Editor-in-Chief Al Barkow, whereby he introduces the theme of golf as a journey of both body and mind, may itself be worth the price of admission."
Issue 4 features a revealing interview with Fred Shoemaker, author of Extraordinary Golf: The Art of the Possible, in which we get a true indication of the source of this brilliant coach’s unique teaching philosophy and methods. The theme of golf as a journey is carried forward with Barkow’s "Golf as a Dream Machine" in which he explores the world of his own "nightly travels" as well as those of others he has collected in his 40 plus years as a golf writer. In "Golf at an Undisclosed Location" Hilton Tudhope shares his tale of a magical and adventurous day of golf that will stir the souls of lovers of the game everywhere. Religious scholar and accomplished author James C. Carse gives us a glimpse of golf as a personal narrative in which the beauty and allure of the game and its metaphorical qualities combine to create the irresistible passion that leads so many of us to seek what he calls "The Buddha’s Eighteenth Hole." The more literal aspects of golf as a journey is well documented in a beautiful pictorial with a colorful presentation of eighteen postage stamps from around the world, each depicting a different golf hole of interest.
