HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (August 6, 2007) — Jeff Herold, the proud father of son Scheyden, announced today that the 12-year-old carded his first hole-in-one at the 9th hole of Seacliff Country Club in Huntington Beach, CA during a father-son nine-hole golf tournament on July 29, 2007.
"Scheyden smoothed a pitching wedge 122 yards. The ball checked up slightly, released, and found its way into the cup," said Herold. "My wife Vivienne and I are so proud of him. He started playing when he was 8 and has really excelled at the game."
What’s unique about this is that Scheyden and his father came to the 9th hole at 2 over par needing a birdie to tie Tyler Sluman and his father Wayne. The brother and nephew of PGA Tour Professional Jeff Sluman were in the clubhouse at one-over in the always difficult alternate shot format.
Jeff told his son to knock it close because they needed a birdie to tie for the lead. Scheyden out did this by acing the hole and winning the event in a most dramatic fashion.
Nearly two years prior, Jeff had his second career hole-in-one on the same hole from 163 yards with a 7-iron with a pin placement that was almost exactly the same as it was for Scheyden’s hole-in-one. Herold added "How many can say that father and son aced the same hole. I am sure it’s a rarity".
