NU’s women’s program is ranked 24th nationally
EVANSTON, Ill.-Golf Digest, in partnership with ESPN, released its 2007-08 rankings, which placed Northwestern’s men’s program among the nation’s leaders in all three polls.
Golf Digest’s rankings encapsulate 1,300 NCAA teams from Division I, II and III and its three separate polls score the programs, primarily on its golf program, academics and then also has a ranking for the academic-golf balance the school provides.
In the "Academics First" poll, NU is ranked fourth overall, only percentage points behind the No. 3 team. The Wildcats are ranked sixth nationally in the poll for "Balanced." "Golf First’s" poll has the `Cats ranked 24th overall. (For an explanation of each category, visit the Golf Digest web site.)
According to the polls, NU ranks in the top 10 percent nationally for academics and for facilities/coaches. Its returning players team adjusted scoring average of 74.15 places the Wildcats in the top-20 percentile in the nation as well.
Combined percentages from five different categories formulated the magazine’s overall rankings: team adjusted scoring averages, player growth, academics, climate and facilities/coaches.
In the women’s division, Northwestern is ranked 24th in the "Balanced" poll.
Northwestern is led by 12th-year coach Pat Goss, who earlier this year was tabbed one of the country’s top-100 teachers by Golf Magazine.
