GCSACC and SNGCSA Members Gather at Nationally Recognized Saddle Creek Resort
Copperopolis, Calif.- Mr. Steve Mona, Chief Executive Officer for the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) will serve as keynote speaker at a joint chapter association meeting on Monday, August 20, 2007 at Saddle Creek Resort in Copperopolis, Calif.
Members from the Sierra Nevada Golf Course Superintendents Association (SNGCSA) and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Central California (GCSACC) will receive an update from Mona on a variety of topics including: the GCSAA’s efforts to advance the standing of its members and facilities, expansion of resources currently available to superintendents, and the association’s diligent work towards advancement of the game and increasing enjoyment and participation of the sport. Mona will also address the GCSAA’s ongoing commitment to enhance environmental compatibility of golf courses.
"Steve Mona has been a tremendous leader and advocate for superintendents and we’re looking forward to having him with us at our joint chapter meeting," stated SNGCSA Board Member and Host Superintendent Scott Dickson. "It will be an ideal opportunity for us to gain more knowledge about our association with a chance to closely explore expanded GCSAA programs that benefit us as members."
California is far-from-new territory for Mona. Early in his career he served as tournament director for the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA). Next, he became assistant manager of press relations for the United States Golf Association (USGA) followed by his tenure as executive director with the Georgia State Golf Association, a position he held until his current responsibilities as chief executive officer with the GCSAA. Mona, a prominent and well-respected leader within the golf industry, was recognized for the sixth consecutive year in 2006 by Golf Inc. as one of the "25 Most Powerful People in Golf" and was listed by Golf Digest as one of the "Most Powerful People in Golf" in 1999.
In addition to Mona’s presentation, during the meeting GCSACC and SNGCSA members will convene with leaders from the California State Chapter of the GCSAA. According to Host Superintendent Scott Dickson, immediately following the business meeting attendees will tee it up (in an individual-ball format) on the Carter Morrish designed course. The nationally-ranked Saddle Creek Resort, is also the venue for the rich-in-tradition Northern California Open Championship slated for later this fall.
