Wyndham Championship Leaders Rely on Variety of Graphite Design Shafts
(SAN DIEGO, California) – Graphite Design — maker of some of the most widely played graphite driver, fairway wood and hybrid shaft models on the PGA TOUR — sparked its 11th Nationwide Tour winner of the year while four top-seven finishers at the PGA TOUR’s Wyndham Championship played the company’s shaft models, according to the Darrell Survey.
Armed with Graphite Design’s Tour AD shaft in his hybrid club, the champion of the Nationwide Tour’s Xerox Classic claimed his third victory of the year and earned a promotion to the PGA TOUR. The winner, who has played a Graphite Design model in each of his victories, fired a final-round 63 to lap the field and become the 11th Nationwide Tour champ of 2007 to play Graphite Design shafts.
One of golf’s rising stars, the Xerox Classic winner has earned
$369,951 in 16 events this season.
At the Wyndham Championship, Graphite Design models were in the bags of four top-seven finishers, who combined to earn more than $874,000 for the week. A runner-up, playing Graphite Design’s Purple Ice shaft in his driver and 3-wood, hit nearly 84 percent of fairways to rank second in driving accuracy for the week. Graphite Design’s YS-6, Tour AD and Prototype models powered other high finishers.
"This week’s Nationwide Tour winner has enjoyed a phenomenal season and we’re proud he’s chosen a Graphite Design shaft for his all- important hybrid club," said Tim Gillis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Graphite Design. "Success by the world’s top professionals validates the Graphite Design promise of greater distance and accuracy, which translates to marked improvement for everyday golfers as well."
In 2006, Graphite Design shafts were played by 41 winners of professional tournaments worldwide. Players using Graphite Design shafts amassed more than $90 million in PGA TOUR earnings in 2006 while the company earned more graphite wood-shaft model count victories on the PGA TOUR (16) than any other manufacturer. On the Japan Tour, Graphite Design shafts were in the bags of 18 winners in
2006 while the company extended its win streak in the wood-shaft brand count to 134 consecutive tournaments – an unprecedented string dating to 2002. (The streak currently stands at 146 consecutive events.)
Graphite Design is the graphite shaftmaker of choice for Hank Haney, coach to the world’s top-ranked player. The company recently introduced the Tour AD Quattro Tech ultra-premium shaft in the U.S.
and launched its G-TECH combination-flex custom clubmaker series of wood and iron shafts, designed for exceptional playability throughout the bag.
