SANTA ANA, CA – August 20, 2007 – Tucked away in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California, the challenging 9 hole Big Bear Golf Course was the location for the First Annual Big Bear United Warrior Survivors Foundation (UWSF) Charity Golf Classic on Friday August 3rd.
Sandy’s Sports Bar along with a little help from GolfGym put on the biggest fund raising golf event ever in Big Bear Lake. With only 52 golfers playing 9 holes twice at the cost of $80 each, the Big Bear patriotic spirit helped raised over $11,400 for the UWSF. The event was so popular that 25 golfers were signed up on the waiting list.
Brian and Debbie Cramer, owners of Sandy’s Sports Bar sold 40 hole sponsorships at $50 each and Fred Valco’s college buddies sponsored the "whole darn course" with a check for $750. Sue McManus put her heart and soul into this tournament and the prize patrol. She got over 100 of the local businesses to donate prizes. From a $15 gift certificate at Phil’s Automotive to a weekend stay at a local Bed and Breakfast. "We couldn’t have done it without Sue," added Brian Cramer. "Her enthusiasm and tenacity was incredible".
"In an era of huge corporate fund raising for charities of all kinds, it is really inspiring to see real people put real effort into fund raising for a really great organization", said Ken Pierce, President of GolfGym LLCâ?¦.who by the way, won the Long Drive contest.

The UWSF is a non-profit 501©(3) California corporation dedicated to the surviving spouses of Special Operations military personnel killed in the line of duty since September 11, 2001. UWSF offers educational grants along with educational counseling, financial guidance, investment planning and other programs.
